What to expect

A comfortable, safe and stress-free scan.

Most scans take 20–30 minutes as you lie comfortably, while more complex scans may take an hour. To help you relax, choose an immersive visual scene and the music you prefer. Parents may accompany children when appropriate.

For some conditions, a safe contrast dye may be injected into a vein to enhance visibility. It is normal to feel a warm or cool sensation. If you experience discomfort or an allergic reaction, a physician is available for immediate assistance.

Before the scan

Three things to remember.

Do you have more things to clarify? Feel free to contact us.
01

No metal, please

The MRI scanner uses a strong magnetic field to produce the images.

02

Dress comfortably

Wear clothing without metal zippers, hooks, buttons or buckles. Metallic objects stay outside the MRI room and a gown is provided.

03

Arrive 30 minutes early

Give yourself time to complete the medical questionnaires before your scan.

MRI safety check

Do you have any of these implants?

If none of these apply, you can go ahead and book your MRI. Remember to leave all metal objects outside the scan room.

  • A radiologist specialising in musculoskeletal imaging examines the images and reports to your doctor.
  • Your doctor advises you on the results and the appropriate treatment.
